Rachel Turns Three!

I know that Scott posted a new blurb about Rachel, but I figured since Mark got his own birthday post, Rachel should too.

Scrambling for Candy from Piñata

Rachel Taking a Go at the Piñata

Rachel turned three on July 3rd, 2010. We had a birthday party for her with lots of friends, a piñata, birthday cake, presents and decorations. If the kids weren’t so content to play with toys and eat candy, there would have been games too – but they just weren’t interested. Fine by me.

The cake was my mother-in-law’s special Chocolate Cake recipe… I wish I had taken pictures. Although it didn’t look as good as it tasted. It. Was. Delicious!!

For her birthday, I made Rachel a special birthday dress, and as every princess knows, you need matching accessories. So I also made her a hat and bag to go with the dress. She just had to put it on for the party – first thing in the morning.

But because she is still in the middle of potty-training and was just too excited that day to focus on going on the potty, she had an accident in her dress before the party even started. But at least I got some photos of her in the dress before guests arrived. (And stylish little brother was dressed to match)

I’m so proud of my sweet little Rachel. It seems she has left her terrible-two’s almost the day she turned three. She is way more obedient and wants to do what is right and what she’s told (although as any parent knows, that’s not a constant thing). I feel like her tantrums are less and her comprehension of what she should do is growing. Her imagination is soaring… everything has a personality – her cars, cups, food, crayons, books – and they all talk to each other. She loves to organize things by size, shape or color. She loves animals, reading (looking at the pictures and saying the parts she remembers) and being read to, helping mom in the kitchen (she loves to play with uncooked dough), and is very often my big helper. She is very proud to announce when she has remembered to do a good thing – wash her hands, put her plate in the sink, or put her shoes on the right feet. It’s a thrill to watch her grow, and while I’m beaming to see her as she is, I almost feel like it’s still too fast and I just want her to slow down. We love you, Rachel.

*** And just for fun, here is a recent Rachel story:  The other day she found a rub-on tattoo in the bottom of the cereal box. So we put it on her arm. It is a world-cup tattoo, for the Ghana team, and has an elephant on it. She loves it. The other day she ran up to me to show me her tattoo and tell me how much she loves it. I said “Which do you love more, your tattoo or Jesus?”  She looked at me like I had four heads – “Jesus” she said as if her answer could possibly be anything else. I said “then it’s OK to love your tattoo – as long as you love Jesus more.”  Looking very satisfied, she walked away happy with herself. Thank you Jesus for our little munchkin.
