Scott and Meghan Dillon traveled to Peru in the summer of 2005 as part of a team from Crossroads Presbyterian Church. Their trip was only
nine days long and consisted of primarily a vacation bible school and some construction on the missionaries' property.
However, shortly after
their trip, they both had a strong desire to return to Peru for a greater length of stay.
"When Meghan told me that she was interested in going back to Peru for more than a week, I tried to be the 'wise' husband and encourage her to give it time. This had been her first mission trip out of the country, so I did not want the temporary spiritual excitement that usually follows a short-term trip to be the only thing fueling her desire to return. Of course, who was I kidding? Meghan knew she wanted to go, and so did I, but it was important for both of us to have the same commitment." (Scott)
Six months after Scott and Meghan visited Peru, they decided to consider pursuing short-term missions with Mission to the World. Through the
interview process, Scott and Meghan became more and more certain of their calling to Peru and finally were accepted as missionaries with MTW in
June of 2006. In September of 2006, Scott and Meghan began raising support for a three year term in Peru. In November of the same year,
Scott and Meghan discovered they would be expecting their first child in July of 2007. Rachel Elizabeth Dillon was born on July 3rd, 2007.
"Soon after Rachel was born, we realized that we had no idea what we were doing when it came to raising support. We sought the assistance of missionaries, pastors, friends... everyone. All we knew after one year was that we didn't know anything. It was then, when we realized our need for non-monetary support that we started new progress. The next year was the most face-paced time of my life because God was communciating our passion and the need for the Gospel to so many people." (Scott)
After traveling to Belgium for a month in January, 2008, the family plans to finish up support raising by the end of 2008 and be on the field by January 2009. In October, 2008, they discovered they are going to have their second child in Peru—expected May, 2009!
